Drawing Your Favorite Subjects with Confidence Workshop with Lee Mothes | Peninsula School of Art

Monday, June 18, 2018 - 9:00am to Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 4:00pm

Concept and Experience
Using common drafting materials and personal photographs, learn how to capture your chosen subject matter with confidence. Develop a solid grounding in drawing focused on creating convincing contrast, texture, and shading.

Lee will demonstrate his drawing process in stages, including preliminary sketching, transferring compositions to large, final paper, proper use of tools, hatching and blending grays, and work subtractively. Take these easy-to-learn techniques and apply them to a drawing of your own composition. Leave this workshop with one finished or well-under-way work of art.

Open to beginning and intermediate students.

Instructor Bio
Lee Mothes' work focuses on the beauty and power of ocean surf. He is fascinated by the energy of storm-driven waves, the spray, foam, and movement of water crahing and surging on the beach, and the delight of reflected light on water. He has written two books about his artwork, An Artist's Journey to Nevermore and The New Island Guidebook: A Wanderer's Guide to a Little-Known Island Nation in the Indian Ocean. In addition to workshops, Lee teaches painting and drawing to high-school students at the Renaissance School of Art in Appleton, WI.
