Policy/Advocacy Internship

Position Description

Arts Alliance Illinois is seeking an intern to provide support on key policy initiatives slated for completion in the coming months.  The Intern will work closely with Alliance staff to implement the advocacy goals of Arts Alliance Illinois. He or she will help gather and organize data, draft communications, assist with material creation and distribution, coordinate logistics for meetings and events, and assist with other task as needed.



Arts Alliance Illinois, formed in 1982 to advocate for state funding for the arts, now builds the vitality of communities statewide through service and advocacy, thereby generating resources for the cultural sector and creative industries. Today, the Alliance’s focus areas include statewide civic engagement, arts education, cultural equity, and arts access.


Time Requirement and Compensation

14 – 21 hours/week.  This position is unpaid but could serve to fulfill course credit requirements associated with the intern’s academic program. The Alliance will work with the intern to establish a schedule and a calendar.


What would an intern learn?

The Advocacy Intern will be treated as a valuable and integrated member of the Arts Alliance Illinois team. The Arts Alliance is a national leader in statewide advocacy. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in arts policy or advocacy. He or she will see first-hand how a small nonprofit arts organization works. This intern will also have the opportunity to exercise creative and innovative thinking.

Skills & Qualifications: 

Position requirements

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Graphic design skills are a plus.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and ensure quality of work.
