Violin Teaching Artist

Chicago Center for Music Education (ChiME) seeks a part-time violin teaching artist to provide Suzuki and traditional instruction in private lessons and group classes to students 4 years old and up.

The Chicago Center for Music Education was founded as the Suzuki-Orff School for Young Musicians in 1981. In 2014, we began doing business as the Chicago Center for Music Education (ChiME). Our mission is to use the language of music to inspire self-expression, self-growth, and deeper human connections. Our goal is to provide long-term access to the many gifts music provides in hopes that one day all Chicagoans will value the language of music.

We serve nearly 3,000 children every year through our programs at ChiME and ten partner organizations, six of which are Chicago Public Elementary schools. Approximately 20% of the children we serve have diverse learning abilities and over 50% of the children we serve are economically disadvantaged. We provide our students with the gift of music through the following programs:

  • Early Childhood
  • Classroom-based music for K-8
  • Ensembles
  • Private Lessons
  • Music Therapy
Skills & Qualifications: 
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Performance and/or Pedagogy, Master’s degree preferred
  • Suzuki training in Book 1 required, through Book 4 or higher preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Suzuki instruction 
  • Current membership in the SAA

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide weekly 30 or 45 minute individual lessons  
  • Deliver weekly Suzuki group instruction 
  • Effectively administer and manage studio in collaboration with staff and adherence to ChiME’s procedures and policies
  • Complete student assessments  
  • Prepare students for performances
  • Attend department and faculty meetings
